Many plumbing repairs at home just can’t wait for the plumber to arrive. Sometimes you just have to go out there and do it yourself because time is of the essence, especially with emergency plumbing. Oftentimes, we have a problem that’s too small and paying a plumber to fix it will cost a lot and even more during holidays. This article will cover the most important plumbing tools to have at home just in case a problem arises.

The Sink Auger

This is one of the most valuable tool that you can have at home. The sink auger is best used for breaking up and clearing clogs in sinks and tubs. Just avoid using it on the toilet though because they use special tool called a closet auger or otherwise known as the toilet auger.

The sink auger is basically a flexible cable with a steel auger bit at the end. This cable is coiled inside a drum canister and as the drum is turned, the cable and the auger bit turns as well.

The Toilet Auger

This is the special tool used to unclog toilets. This also known as the closet auger because the term for a toilet in plumbing lingo is closet or a water closet. Never use this for other purposes other than the toilet.

The Flange Plunger (Toilet Plunger)

This item is especially shaped to help unclog toilets by means of vacuum and the force of the water. The shape of the plunger seals the hole at the bottom of the toilet bowl which is unlike the typical cup-shaped plunger which is used for sinks and tubs.

The Cup Plunger

This is the ideal plunger for sinks and tubs. The shape of this plunger is like a cup and is great for sealing off tubs and sinks. You’ll probably find this in most homes. A lot of people use this for toilets as well but they soon realize that it doesn’t work well because of the shape.

The Teflon Tape

This is very important in preventing leaking at threaded plumbing joints. The Teflon Tape is a very cheap and effective way of of effectively sealing pipe threads being joined together such as faucets and shower heads as well as the threaded line itself.

Another use for the Teflon Tape is to seal gas and air from leaking through threaded connections such as a dryer.

An Adjustable Pipe Wrench

When imagining a plumber, the first thing that comes to mind is a pipe wrench. It is like an icon that connects to a plumber. An adjustable pipe wrench gives the plumber a lot of leverage and grip when handling pipes and stuff which is why each and every one of them needs to have one. This is probably the reason why it is so connected to being a plumber.

This tool is known to leave marks though, so stay away from using it with any of your lovely fixtures. You can remedy that though by putting duct tape at the on the serrated teeth of the wrench.
