Question:
I have a cussler union on my hot water heater supply line and it keeps bursting. I have tried turning down the thermostat temperature and it seems like nothing works. Why does it do this?
Answer:
Are you talking about the nuts on the ends of the flex lines for your water heater? You normally don’t use unions for hooking up water heaters…Thermal expansion would cause them to leak due to expansion and contraction over time. If you are talking about the nuts on the end of flex lines, the threads on the nipples may be stripped and the nuts are popping off when the heater heats up the water for use. Try changing the nipples and supply lines and see if that solves the problem.
