Question:

My plumber can’t unplug the sink and wants to drain the sink through the toilet pipe.  Is this a good idea?

Answer:

Usually the secondary drain lines such as the wash machine, kitchen sink, bathtub etc.. drain into the main sewer line.  Did he pull the trap and waste arm under the sink and run the entire cable, (usually 75 feet), on the snake 3 or 4 times?  Some stubborn lines may need to be Hydrojetted with high pressure water to clear the blockage.  The only reason to snake from the toilet pipe, (closet bend) would be if the main sewerline is clogged and backing into the smaller drain lines.
