Question:

When using my kitchen sink or garbage disposal, water overflows and clogs my garage sink. Draino & snaking the pipe hasn’t solved the problem. I have no clue what the problem is. Any ideas?

Answer:

The garage laundry sink is actually the beginning of the drain system. From there it connects to the kitchen sink and then goes thru the house to the downstairs bathroom where it connects to the tub and then drops into the main sewer line (from the toilet).

You need to pull the trap arm from the garage sink and snake the drain at least 75 feet to make sure the grease and sludge is pushed into the 4″ main line. You may have to run the snake 3 or 4 times to get the blockage out. After putting the trap back on, pour 6 ounces of Simple Green (a degreaser) into the sink and add some really HOT water. Boil a pot on the stove and use that to dump down the drain.
