Question:
I’m going over from a septic to the sewer system and when I got down to the sewer stub it a 6″ and my sewer line is 4″. I bought a 4″ to 6″ adapter but the adapter is the same size as the sewer stub opening and my question is, how much pipe should I feed into the sewer stub and how should I seal the 1″ gap left around it? I have 11 people in my home all the sudden and my septic system I don’t think can take it which is why I’m doing this. I am the only income so hiring a plumbing company is impossible.
Answer:
Are you using a no-hub reducing coupling? Is the new sewer hook up clay pipe? Is the line coming out of your house cast iron or plastic, (ABS)? The distance between the 4 inch pipe and the 6 inch pipe should be almost touching each other. The rubber coupling uses two bands which should be torqued down to 60 lbs.
