Question:
Our bathtub recently became partially clogged and was draining very slowly. Today I attempted to plunge the drain (plugged overflow with damp rag) to no avail. I tried some clog chemical, which slowly drained through but did not clear the drain.
Later, I filled the tub again and the water did not drain at all. I
attempted to plunge again and got a significant mass of dirt and moss pulled back into the tub from the drain–still no flow.
I am concerned by the moss and dirt–does not seem like stuff that went down the drain in the first place. Any help is appreciated–I am hesitant to plunge further or use any more chemical until I understand how moss is coming up my drain.
Thanks for any advice. Calling a plumber would be a very difficult expense at this time.
Answer:
Chemicals such as draino are very harsh on the pipes and will eventually eat through them. If you are getting traces of dirt and plant matter, you probably have a break in the line which means you’ll unfortunately have to call the plumber.
