Question:
Please help! We have a real plumbing nightmare on our hands! We just had our bathroom redone by a friend who does excellent carpentry and tilework, but doesn’t know that much about plumbing. He installed a Sterling Neo-Angle corner shower for us, tiled in the walls and installed the shower doors.
Here’s the problem…looks like he messed up and didn’t install the drain properly before the base was installed. We are trying to figure out how we are going to install the drain into the opening in the shower base since everything we’ve read says it should be installed before the base is secured. I realize this is going to take a real plumbing miracle. Any advice would be extremely appreciated!!!
Answer:
Most sterling shower pans use both a basket that is put on the pan before it is set (using plumbers putty, two gaskets and a nut to hold it down). Then a rubber gasket which pushes down over the drain pipe makes the seal. Is water leaking from under the pan when you run water? They do make a shower drain that can be attached from the top if the original was installed incorrectly. These can only be found at a plumbing supply house. Good luck!
