Question:
I have an indoor gas hot water system. After a hot shower one of the pipes at the base of the unit leaks water. Some times up to a litre. It is NOT coming from the overflow pipe. I recently had a gas leak and the plumbers that came to fix that cut off a piece of pipe that used to be connected to the now leaking pipe. The piece they cut off used to run out of the laundry and under the house.
What I would like to know is, has this leak always happened and I just not noticed cause the water would go outside or is this something I should be concerned about? Also since the gas leak the system is very noisy when filling and heating then when it is done it makes a kind of popping noise. Is this also something I should be concerned about?
Answer:
You need to call the plumber back and have him look at the pipe they cut off while you run water in the shower. Sounds like they cut the drainline or condensate line and the water is leaking out from the opening. This might also explain the louder water sound since the pipe is open.
