Question:
I started the washing machine and a flood of sand came through the faucets into the tub. I emptied this and tried again and the same thing happened. The outside faucet on the same side of the house as the washer also had tons of sand this morning as I tested it. The kitchen is fine and so is the bathroom that is in line with the kitchen. I am on a well, but seem to have normal water flow into the kitchen and bathroom. What is the problem with the washer and outside faucet?

Could be sediment from the water heater or a water softener with a cracked brine tank.
