Question:

We have a 1950′s bungalow and want to put a bathroom in the basement below the existing main floor bathroom. We were told that to tie into the cast iron vent stack that the wall upstairs in the main floor bathroom would have to be opened up to do the tie in. Is that true? Do we have to open the wall upstairs to tie into the vent stack from the basement?

Answer:

Yes, you would have to open up the wall to make the tie in to the vent as well as the drain. If the basement is below the existing sewer line you will need to use a sewage ejection pump to push the debris upstairs.
