Plumbing Question 113
Question:
When installing a stainless steel flange in a stainless steel sink, should one use plumbers’ putty on the paper gasket?
Answer:
Plumbers putty should be applied to the flange around the strainer then placed in the sink. From underneath place the rubber washer and then the paper one, then the nut and tighten it down. The paper gasket prevents the rubber from spreading outward when you tighten the nut.
