Plumbing Question 1

Question:

Is is possible to install a toilet and sink/shower into a basement that was not set with plumbing prior to construction?  The septic drains about 3 feet above the basement floor level.  Is there such a  thing as a sewage lift system that can carry waste from the toilet that sits lower than the septic pipe?

Answer:

Yes.  A sewage ejection pump can be installed to push the waste uphill to the existing sewer line.  This would require a small sump pit at ground level with the basement floor.  As waste fills the pit, the sewage pump float would eject the waste up to the existing sewer line tie-in where it would drain downhill with the normal flow of waste.  Check with local building codes as most ejection pumps require a vent to be installed.
