Can Not Turn Off Shower

How can i turn off my shower. The problem is the stopper is very hard to push in to the wall,as well as trying to pull it out. When i turn the taps on for the tub the shower also comes on,an i can’t shut it off.The tub has a marble wall surrounding it and i can’t access it easily, any suggestion would be appreciated.Thank You.

Answer:

It sounds like your fixtures in the shower stall/bathtub are somewhat frozen due to expansionary tension that occurs over time. This causes valve to not properly work. You have a couple of choices.  If the off/on fixtures are still operational it possible you can return your shower to proper working order through some good ole fashion coaxing with WD-40.  You should remove the handle fixtures and inspect to see what the condition is.  If it salvageable, then work in some lubricant and then evaluate how everything operations with the shower water supply on and off.

Another option is to just replace all of the fixtures in question.  If this is beyond your level of expertise, then you can contract a qualified plumber to perform the service.  It is possible that through continuous use, the shower hot/cold water fixtures are just not operating properly and a re-fit with something comparable is just what the plumbing doctor ordered.

I live in a condo and often we are away for extended periods. After a four month absence I discovered that the hot water to the shower in the guest room is not functioning. Cold water is OK and hot water to the sink but not the shower.
Does a scale or other material build up when not used? How do I fix the problem?

I had a question about using galvanized fittings in a sewage tank. These fittings are submerged constantly in sewage. What is the industry practice? I had a problem previously with galvanized fittings corroding through at the threads.

    Thank you.

I had the exact same problem, and we had new fixtures put in. Guess what? It still does the same thing. Not only does the shower come on when I turn on the faucet, when I run the shower, the faucet continues to pour water into the tub. The stopper is not hard to push in or anything. Given that we have already replaced all the fixtures, what is another solution to this problem?
